Pasado Progresivo

En ingles en el pasado, hay tres tipos de verbos – pasado, pasado perfecto, y pasado progresivo. El pasado progresivo quiere decir que una acción occuría en el pasado y continuaba pasando por un tiempo. Es lo mismo que el presente progresivo pero la única diferencia es que la acción pasaba en el pasado con este tiempo de verbo.

Ejemplo: Ella estuvo caminando a su casa. She was walking to her house.

Formula: subject + to be (past) + verbo –ing

Ejemplos:

I was eating my lunch. Estuve comiendo el almuerzo.

He was reading a book. Él estuvo leyendo un libro.

She was doing her homework. Ella estuvo haciendo su tarea.

They were walking to school. Ellos estuvieron caminando a la escuela.

We were working at our jobs. Nosotros estuvimos trabajando en nuestros trabajos.

Es importante notar que usamos el pasaod progresivo cuando queremos decir una historia sobre el pasado y establizar la situación antes de decir una cosa que occurió es el pasado. Por ejemplo: Estuve comiendo el almuerzo cuando entró mi padre. I was eating lunch when my father entered. El pasado progresivo nos ayuda establizar el contexto antes de decir la cosa que occurió en el pasado (entró mi padre).

She was doing her homework when her mother came in. Ella estuvo haciendo su tarea cuando su madre entró.
