About 30 million people speak Indonesian as their first language and 140 million speak it as a second language. Indonesian has the same number of letters as English. Most of them sound like English too with some exceptions; the table below shows it all:

In addition to the letters above Indonesian has some more compound letters:

Like in “hanging” softly.

Another compound similar to the “ng”, is the “ngg” with allows us to pronounce it the hard way as “bingo”

Similar to the “n” in the Spanish “mañana”,

kha

From Arabic, sounds like the Scottish “loch” or the Spanish jota.

From Arabic like “shield”
