What do people speak in Zimbabwe?
Shona is the official language of Zimbabwe.
thank you edwin, I have never heard that language before.
Hi Andy,
Ndebele and shona are Zimbabwe's two dominant African languages, however due the fact that Zimbabwe is bordered by four countries, there are linguistic influences within Zimbabwe from each of these countries namely Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa. For example, in the south east of Zimbabwe along the South African border, Tshivenda aka Venda is spoken.
It is important to note that due to the fact that Zimbabwe was colonised by Britian, Zimbabwean's are quite fluent in English and this helps to bridge the gap between the different native languages
Hope this helps
